HOW TO PRAY EFFECTIVELY

Have
You ever wanted to pray and you don’t have the right words? Perhaps, a number
of jumbled prayer requests and you don’t even know where to start. You have
heard that the Holy Spirit teaches us to pray but it seems like the Holy Spirit
does not even have your house address. Then you decided to watch YouTube videos
for tutorials on how to pray, you followed the script but it just didn’t work.
Your prayers were not even getting answers and you decided to relax and let
Jesus take the wheel. That’s why you quickly clicked the link when you saw
this, you really want to know how to pray so badly.

We are not here to give you
a tutorial or a script on how to pray effectively. We are here to teach you
what has worked for us and is still working.

You
probably grew up with the ideology that God is sacred and we must present our
issues to him and quickly leave his presence. For some of us, we were not
taught to tell God about our everyday challenges, we are taught to ask God for
food, shelter and clothing because “that’s what he knows how to provide best.”

One essential truth is that
God is a friend, not an angry king, waiting to strike us dead the moment we make
a mistake. The bible tells us that Moses talked to God as a man talks to his
friend. I imagine the two of them chatting about everyday issues like.

Moses: You can imagine that pharaoh, he thinks he
was wise. I loved the way you dunked him and his riders in the sea.

God: Ha-ha, don’t mind him. I kept warning him
but he wouldn’t listen.

In my head, this was the relationship
between God and Moses. And that’s the relationship I want to have with God too.
Imagine if you tried talking to God about that nasty boss, that toxic
relationship, that stubborn child etc. I think it will be much better. Why not
try it and tell us your experience in the comment section.

To make this easier, you can
consider journaling. Talking to God doesn’t have to be structured with you on
your knees or your face bowed on the ground, it could be through your pen. You
can journal your everyday experience, pour it out just as it is in your mind
and watch God speak to you through the lines. Why not tells us about how this
is going by clicking

Here
are 5 prayer essentials to make your prayers more effective:

-
Come as you are: God has seen you in your lowest, he cares less
about your sins and he cares less about seeing you perfect before you come into
his presence. It is in God’s presence that he perfects you, his presence molds
you into what he wants you to be with minimal effort from you. So why not come
as you are- naked and unashamed to the place of grace knowing fully well that
God is the one that cleanses you.

Leave all those religious rituals behind and
just come to him, withholding nothing and willing to surrender all to his ever
refining love. God is not man, he doesn’t judge you, come as you are.

-
Surrender to his will: God has a will for our life. He has our path
ordered by him already that we don’t have to do so much work than just surrendering
to his will. Surrendering to Gods will can be so hard because we have our plans
and desires. Some of us have our life so planned like where we want to be in
ten years, who we want to marry, how many kids to have, our dream job etc. that
we forget Gods will.

We forget Gods will to the extent that we start
to tell God to stamp what we want instead of carefully following him. It is
okay to have our own plans, but our prayers should always be a prayer of
surrendering and saying “God, let your will be done in this situation”.

When we surrender all to his will, everything
begins to fall in place in ways that we don’t even understand.

-
Don’t worry: What is worrying you? What is making you so
anxious that the last time you checked your blood pressure, it was so high? Why
are you worried?

God, our father does not like us worrying. He
says “why are you worried when I have provided all that you need”. Most of us
come in to the place of prayer to talk about our many worries that we get tired
at some point and stop praying. God wants you to stop worrying about the things
that he already provided.

-
Pray from a place of victory: You have already won. Your desires have been
met and God has answered your prayers. Carry this belief into your prayer
closet. Instead of saying “please, God do this for me “say “God, I thank you
that you have done this”.

This boosts your faith and confidence in the
place of prayer. Don’t forget to keep a track of the prayers that God has
already answered. This helps you to develop a heart of gratitude towards God
and helps you not to forget his promises over your life.

-
Remain confident: Our prayers may not get answered immediately
but we need to trust God that he has and will do what he has promised. We are
confident that we have found favor in Gods sight and we pray from a place of
confidence that he has our life and times in his hands.

We hope these prayer essentials boost our
prayer life. Don’t forget to like, share and drop your testimony to Gods glory.
